The HOPE Scholarship Alumni Mentoring Program matches 1st year university students with mentors from the Diabetes Hope Scholarship alumni based on similar academic and social backgrounds.

Who We Are...
Under the auspices of Diabetes Hope Foundation, we are a group of Alumni mentors drawn from a membership of over 300 youths living with diabetes. Since 1999, Diabetes Hope Foundation has given out 378 scholarships to stellar young adults across the country.

Why We're Here...
Our goal is to assist students in their transition into campus life and provide them with a network to encourage academic and social exploration. Through peer role-modeling, mentoring, and peer-to-peer interactions, mentors will aim to inspire young adults with diabetes to achieve better long-term health outcomes. Additionally mentors also help students develop the skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in their careers, as well as provide a link between the classroom and the business/professional community.

What We Do...
The Scholarship Alumni Mentoring Program matches each first year alumni member with a mentor who is either currently enrolled in the same university or a recent graduate from the same university. The mentors and mentees will also be further matched by academic and professional interests. Participation in the program is voluntary and driven by the needs of first-year Alumni members. The length of the mentor/mentee partnership will be determined by each individual pair at the beginning of the academic year.

How You Will Meet...
A combination of one-to-one and event driven mentoring will support first-year Alumni members in developing a peer of network of young adults with diabetes to help them achieve stronger academic, professional and health outcomes.

Mentors and mentees will be matched at Diabetes Hope Foundation’s annual Evening of Hope ceremony in the spring and will be re-engaged throughout the year through the Foundation’s annual events: Alumni Leadership & Development Day, Swing for Hope and Diabetes Walk for Hope. Mentor/Mentees are also encouraged to meet individually one-to-one throughout the year.
