Interim Medical Assistance Program
Each of us knows someone who has faced a health crisis- be it our children, parents, loved ones or friends - even ourselves. With luck, most of these crises are put behind us as, with outstanding health care, our condition improves – hopefully to the state of complete health.
Diabetes is a complex health problem that does not go away but can be controlled by vigilant monitoring of blood sugar levels, diet and exercise. Diabetes Hope Foundation’s Medical Assistance Program assists children living with diabetes whose families are not covered by third party health plans and who struggle to obtain the necessary medical supplies and drugs needed to control their diabetes. Insulin, needles, swabs, glucose monitoring devices, and test strips are not covered by OHIP. The average cost per patient for these supplies is anywhere from $200 to $350 dollars per month, up to $4,000 per year, per patient. For lower income families and new immigrants with no third party insurance coverage, these costs can be staggering.
Diabetes Hope Foundation partners with pediatric hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to ensure financial obstacles are not barriers to obtaining the best diabetes health care.
